More time to rebuild a life: EU and Switzerland extend Ukrainians’ temporary protection to March 2028

The EU and Switzerland have extended temporary protection for Ukrainians already living there until 4 March 2028, giving displaced families a longer legal horizon. The extension does not settle permanent residence, and national changes to healthcare and housing support mean legal protection does not remove every source of insecurity.
Continued protection gives displaced people more time to build their lives, even as lasting residency and access to support remain uncertain.
