"Welcome Back": Six Days After Being Banned, CNN, MS NOW and Politico Walked Back Into the White House on a Judge's Order
Reported by PBS News / Associated Press
Publisher date:
U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly issued a 14-day temporary restraining order around 1:30 a.m. ET on 24 September, finding the revocation of the three outlets' press credentials likely violated their due-process rights and ordering them 'immediately' restored. Journalists from CNN, MS NOW and Politico were back on White House grounds by midday Thursday. Some access limits remained at the Xi state-dinner arrival, and the legal fight continues.
Within a week, the courts and a press corps acting together restored access for banned newsrooms — evidence the checks around a free press are still operating, not just being tested.
