NSW public school teachers will receive the latest instalment of a pay deal this week, with starting salaries now $92,882 and top-of-scale salaries $133,422. The state government also reports teacher vacancies at a 12-year low and more than 25,000 teachers and school support staff moved from temporary contracts to permanent employment.

Better pay and permanent employment make teaching a more financially secure career, while reported reductions in vacancies offer hope of greater classroom stability.
