Relief may still be possible when depression resists treatment: 70% responded in a small brain-stimulation study
Reported by The Straits Times
Publisher date:
In an Institute of Mental Health study, 70% of 21 participants with treatment-resistant depression responded within a month of receiving personalised transcranial magnetic stimulation. The treatment is now offered at Singapore’s National University Hospital, providing another option for some patients whose depression has resisted treatment, though response does not necessarily mean remission.
The findings suggest that people not helped by previous depression treatments may still have a path to relief, although lasting benefit remains uncertain.
