Nature’s destruction can be slowed: Brazil’s Amazon and Cerrado reach their lowest recorded deforestation levels
Reported by Mongabay
Publisher date:

Brazil’s Amazon lost nearly 42% less forest between August 2025 and July 2026 than in the previous year, while deforestation in the Cerrado savanna fell 24%. Both reached their lowest levels since monitoring began, showing substantial reductions are possible even as clearing continues.
These measured declines show that the pace of ecosystem destruction can change substantially, offering evidence of progress without suggesting the losses have ended.
