Clean Drinking Water From the Sea, Without Poisoning the Ocean in Return
Reported by ScienceDaily
Publisher date:
Desalination has long provided freshwater at an environmental cost, dumping millions of gallons of toxic liquid brine back into marine ecosystems. Researchers have now demonstrated a solar-powered system that extracts fresh water while crystallising leftover salts into solid form, preventing coastal pollution while recovering useful minerals like lithium.
Coastal communities need fresh water, but saving human populations no longer has to come at the expense of suffocating the marine life right beside them.
