Publisher date:
Directorate General of Health Services figures show 19,771,720 children vaccinated against measles and rubella since the emergency campaign began on 5 April, about 10 percent above the 18,015,064 target. A further intensified campaign for 3.4 million children aged six to 59 months begins on 26 September, with 4.3 million doses collected from UNICEF on 10 September and 1.5 million already in stock. Health workers will go into villages rather than wait at campaign centres.
A country of 178 million is running one of the largest emergency immunisation efforts in the world while the outbreak is still active, and has already exceeded its own target by a tenth.
