A future with new neighbours: Israel’s Kibbutz Zikim is building 25 homes and has a two-year waiting list to join
Reported by NPR
Publisher date:
Three years after the Hamas-led October 7 attack emptied communities along Israel’s border with Gaza, residents are returning and new families are arriving. In Kibbutz Zikim, 25 homes are under construction and demand to join the roughly 1,000-person community has created a two-year waiting list.
People choosing to join and rebuild these communities offer tangible evidence that shared life can grow again after devastating violence, without suggesting the wider conflict is resolved.
